An Application
By LK 1:63, Zechariah had learned his lesson to obey exactly as he'd been told. And he used a writing tablet. (Not an iPad, the old fashioned kind of tablet.) Because what he was about to say was really important and he wanted no ambiguity. God's message to us is similar. He gave us His word, the Bible, in writing, so there is no ambiguity. People who don't
like
what God has to say don't like His simplicity, but to the rest of us, His message is wonderful (1CO 1:18).
Connect the Dots
We see a paradigm clash in LK 1:59-61. God doesn't need to mess with our norms, He's not a cultural revolutionary in the modern sense, but He will challenge a lot of assumptions in the rest of the Gospel. / John's coming was prophecied in both MAL 3:1 and 4:5-6. / In LK 1:59, the circumcision was on the 8th day because of EX 22:29-30 and LEV 12:1-3. / In LK 1:62, John wasn't deaf, rather he was mute, but so often we misunderstand other people's difficulties.
